Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Ranchi,Ph.D Admission-2012
Entrance Test: The Ph.D entrance test will be held on 17th August, 2012,
09.00 a.m. to 01.00 p.m. at the Institute main building on the
Institute’s Campus at Mesra, Ranchi-835215 (except for those candidates
who wish to join the Ph.D programme 2012 (MO 2012) at any of the
Extension/International Centre, the venue for the test/interviews will
be the same centre)
However, they must indicate the centre for the test/interview in their application form
The Ph.D entrance test on 17th August, 2012
would consist of 2 parts; General Aptitude Test common to all
applicants, from 09.00 a.m. to 09.45 a.m. on 17th August, 2012 and
Subject Specific Tests to examine basic fundamental knowledge in the
subject, from 10.00 a.m. to 10.45 a.m. for candidates applying to only
one Department; 10.00 a.m. to 10.45 a.m. and 11.00 a.m. to 11.45 a.m.
for candidates applying to two Departments; 10.00 a.m. to 10.45 a.m.,
11.00 a.m. to 11.45 a.m. and 12 Noon to 12.45 p.m. for candidates
applying to three Departments
The syllabi of the General Aptitude Test
and the Subject Specific Tests for each Department can be seen on the
Department profiles on the Institute website
Date for Interviews: 17th August, 2012, from 02.00 p.m., at the concerned Department /Centre
Provisional selection lists, along with
procedures for admissions, will be notified by 05.00 p.m. on the day
after the interviews, on the Institute website and Notice Boards of the
Institute only

QS World University Rankings 2011/2012
University of Cambridge (UK) is again the highest ranked university in the world, according to the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranking of the world's best universities 2011/12. This is the second year running that Cambridge University has taken the No. 1 spot. Harvard University maintained the second highest position in the world, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology in third place (up two places from 5th in the 2010 ranking), and Yale University in fourth place (dropped a place from 3rd to 4th).
In Asia, the highest ranked institution is the University of Hong Kong (22nd globally), ahead of The University of Tokyo (25th globally), and National University of Singapore (NUS) (28th globally). Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has jumped up 16 places in 2011, ranked 58th in the world (a quantum leap from 74th place last year). This makes NTU one of the fastest-rising universities in the top 100 list.
In Australia, the highest ranked university is Australian National University (26th in the world). A total of 5 Australian institutions ranked in the global top 50. The others are: The University of Melbourne (31st), The University of Sydney (38th), The University of Queensland (48th), and The University of New South Wales (49th). Swinburne University of Technology has been ranked for the second consecutive year in the top 450 universities in the world by the QS World University Rankings. With an estimated 15,000 universities world wide, this ranking puts Swinburne in the top three per cent of universities in the world.
